WOW!! I can not say enough about Col. Potter; my wife nearly two years ago located their web site which changed our lives; we had been without a four legged friend in our house for over a year since our doggie had passed, the Col. Potter people and especially foster mom Bonnie have been wonderful people to work with; our cairn 'CammieLou' has changed the quality of our life, we do the transports for the network which is full of wonderful people who truly care about our little friends, God Bless you all and Happy healthy New year and continue the great work 12/31/2007 15:50

I rescued a Col. Potter Furkid in August 07. The story of his ill elderly owners having to make the very difficult decision to surrender Cartman to Col. Potter and the zeal of the Col. Potter volunteers to find him a forever home is inspirational. Tor-Cartman is now in his Forever home and has become a beloved member of my family. He constantly sends telepathic messages to his first owners that he is safe and loved - all due to Col. Potter volunteers working hard to rescue him and to find him a good Forever home. Thank you Col. Potter and all the volunteers. Sandy and Tor-Cartman 12/30/2007 22:00

Nearly 2 years ago a little black & white cairn mix was abandoned in Alabama because he had contracted heartworm & his owners hadn't given him the preventative. He was attached by some "big" dogs and then picked pu by animal control. He still had his tags & when the owners were called, they said, "He's sick, we don't want him." Colonel Potter took him in, fostered him in Louisiana, got him treated for the heartworm and them made arrangements to fly him to Maine where he found his "Forever" home. Gaston Pierre is the most lovey, cuddly little boy we have ever known and we have Colonel Potter to thank for being able to have him and love him each & every day. He is so precious and loveable and he knows that he is loved 24/7. God BLess Colonel Potter and the wonderful tasks they perform every day to rescue these wonderful Cairns. Anne T. Very few animal charities get much attention. What makes Col. Potter so special is that a group of people decided one day to make a difference and Col. Potter was born. In our world today rarely do you see self-less acts. Did you know that Col. Potter Cairns are placed with foster families who love and care for them as their own, getting them ready for 'forever' homes? Talk about a self-less act of love! Help support this dedicated group! 12/29/2007 09:18

"It's just a dog."

It's a difficult concept to understand (and it may never be clear to someone who hates or fears dogs) but I firmly believe that loving and caring for my dog makes ME a better person.

Rescuing a dog and finding it a home is a win-win situation: the dog wins with a warm and cozy place to sleep; the adopting family wins with a new family member who gives kisses and tailwags and unstinting love; and the volunteers that find, heal, transport, and place the dog win with the knowledge that they've helped.

And you can win by supporting these efforts. Please support Col. Potter in this contest, and support your local animal shelter or your favorite breed's rescue organization as well.

Millions of dogs (and their people) thank you! 12/28/2007 10:42

Three years ago we adopted a wonderful little female Cairn named Bella from Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network and our life has not been the same. She is the light of our life. What a loveable little thing she is. We are just constantly amazed how intelligent she is. AS soon as we mention the word WALK, she runs in circles and waits by the door for her leash. We started spelling the word to give ourselves time to get ready and now she knows what WALK is when we spell it. She recognizes all of our family and friends as soon as they pull up in front and just about turns inside out until they get into the house, so she can greet them. I can't thank CP enough for their work in making this adoption happen. We are solid supporters of their work, if others only get half the joy we have gotten with Bella. 12/27/2007 21:52

The Col Potter Cairn Rescue Network (CPCRN) continues to amaze me with their compassion and caring. I adopted Figgy my Cairn Terrier almost two years ago and he came from a terrible Puppy Mill where he was kept in a small crate outside in thunderstorms, snow, heat and the tips of his ears froze off. He is still fearful of thunder, lightening, fireworks, loud sounds and even the flash from a camera. Figgy now gets up every morning and finds his favorite ball and can play catch all day. He holds this precious possession in his mouth for hours wanting someone to toss it. He loves the cheers when he catches the ball and now tosses it to the person. You see he never had the warm touch of a human nor any toys to play with, medical care, clean food and water or a warm blanket to sleep on. Figgy lived the first 3 years in a small crate with barely enough room to turn around stacked on top of other crates. Now, Figgy is safe and well loved all thanks to the wonderful folks in the Col Potter organization. 12/27/2007 21:43

Oh, the joy of riding a horse! There is NOTHING like the feeling of throwing your right leg (the final leg that makes contact with the horse) over that strong back and going on an adventure! My husband and I have ridden for hours and hours with our children and neighbors. I cannot imagine a better way to gift a child than to give him/her the opportunity to become a partner to a horse, who will show them worlds unknown to them for nothing more than a carrot or an apple and a pat on the back. Most horses will do so for even less!

You have my vote, my donation and my sincere hope that you continue to prosper onto greener pastures with your endeavors.

I found Col.Potter when searching for a Cairn Terrier rescue to adopt from after the loss of my heart dog, Cassidi, 3 years ago today. She was only 5-1/2 years old. I adopted my first CP girl who was a pupy mill rescue in Feb.2005. My Piper was saved just in time by CP. She has come so far in the almost 3 years i have had her. I became a CP volunteer in June 2005. I have done transports, home visits and fostered. I now have 3 CP rescues: Zoe, adopted 5/06 at 4 months after her pregnant mom was rescued by CP. And I adopted my 9yr old tri-pod Tia earlier this year after she was rescued by CP after she was abandoned. Not only do i have 3 great dogs, i feel like i have gained a huge caring, compassionate, loving family. Out of something tragic, came something wonderful.....Patty L. 12/26/2007 18:23

Being a part of cairn rescue has given me a new confidence and openned a whole new world of friends (two legs and four legged.) Thier support mentally, physically and spiritually have helped me help others. Col Potter openned my eyes to a situtation I was unaware of - puppy mill abuse and animal abuse. Donating my time, home and ability is the least I can do to help these rescues. My fosters have all blossomed and know love. I have adopted one and have a foster in home now. Last month I presented a Mom with a special older gentleman who now has a perfect home. The work of Rescue is never ending - sharing the sorrow and celebrating the joys! Darbdunc. 12/26/2007 16:49

I've adopted two kids from CP and foster and fostered 4 others. To see Benny continue to come out of his shell from years spent in a puppy mill continues to amaze me. As a volunteer I can attest to how committed the entire organization is to saving one Cairn, and another and still yet another. Always trying to stretch to save yet one more no matter how full we are none are left behind if we can help it. Denise Hoffman 12/26/2007 08:09

I volunteer at a similar therapeutic stable in Pennsylvania, and over the years have really seen a difference in the kids (and some adults) that take lessons. It's amazing that someone who may not be able to walk well on their own can steer a thousand pound animal. What a sense of freedom that must give. Students get so much more than the physical benefits, they learn to groom a horse, what all the equipment is called - it's great to see them do for themselves. Please support this program. 12/26/2007 07:01

I have adopted 2 beautiful Cairns in the past 3 years from this magnificent group of dedicated rescue volunteers. Both Cagney and Lacey are puppymill survivors who were "damaged" either physically or emotionally. With love, care , and constant reinforcement, both have blossomed into the Cairns they were meant to be. From their horrendous beginnings in life, they now live the good life in Las Vegas! Harvard Square Homeless Shelter deserves your vote and your donation. My wife, daughter, and mother-in-law have volunteered to help the students who run this shelter, but their services are only sought during holiday vacation periods. Otherwise, it is 100% run by student volunteers who do an amazing job for the guests. For them it is the BEST and most personable, caring shelter in the greater Boston area. I'm from Ohio and I adopted my adorable Cairn boy named Sean in June. Col Potter Network rescued my dog from a commercial breeder in Missouri, provided several hundred dollars in veterinary care in New York, and arranged for his foster care by a fantastic family in Pennsylvania. After the adoption, the network has mentored me by email and by phone, and through their comprehensive Yahoo group and website. I'm learning about obedience, grooming, health care and nutrition for my special buddy. In July, I had a chance to assist in transporting a rescued Cairn girl to her foster homewhich became her forever homein Michigan. I am amazed that this group manages so many rescues with all volunteer help, and in such a timely manner. The communications are excellent, and it saves canine lives. Cairn terriers are willful and they are not for everyone. This group combines great communication, dynamic volunteer efforts, high placement standards, and a passion for the breed to make a difference--one dog at a time. 12/23/2007 18:17

I can't say enough about the good works and accomplishments of Colonel Potter. I found the organization through an internet search. Was very impressed by their adoption process, staffed totally by volunteers. My first Colonel Potter fur kid was rescued from a puppy mill that CP closed down. My little fur kid almost died from the disease he acquired in that filthy place. Though the work of dedicated volunteers and vets they rescue fur kids from these terrible situations. RideOn St. Louis is one of the most important organizations that I have come across in a long time relative to the type of assistance they provide their clients. In addition to that, they engage in the research and development necessary to move this type of therapy forward. Equine assisted therapy is not only helping individuals served at RideOn St. Louis, but there are soldiers coming home from the war using this type of therapy to help them recover from injuries recieved while serving our country. I am confident that the work done at RideOn St. Louis and their participation in two University studies have moved this therapy forward in immeasurable ways. Please donate to this charity, it is so very worthy, in doing so you will support so much more work than you can immagine. 12/21/2007 16:10

I am a proud volunteer and adopted two very wonderful little boy cairns from Col. Potter. If it was not for CP my boy Brice would have died from pnemonia as he was a puppy mill cairn left to die in a barn because of his under bite. So he was considered unwanted stock. As the recipient of Col. Potters kindess after Katrina, I cannot ever express the love we felt. The overwheming sense of not being alone is a world gone so horriably wrong. The devastation in Biloxi was so massive it was truly unbelievable even though it was a reality we faced every day. The kindess, the love, the gifts of time and money and hearts truly helped us survive not only pysically but mentally and emotionally. There will never in this lifetime be enough words to express the gratitude and love we have for this goup of caring souls. Because they not only cair for cairns but for cairn peolple.
