We bought this on blue ray which give both endings where you watch the whole movie twice with each different ending. We (my husband and I) both agree that a mix of both would be good. We too were left with questions as to what next after the alternate. do they find the other servivors? We liked that he lived but we have not read the book but plan to. We also wondered why he did not get the blood sample for the cure before he gave the infected woman back? then at least be able to try to cure some of the infected. so many questions with the alternate ending. but the theatrical was good too but also very hollywood with the semi happy ending us americans love. but i beinga woman love happy endings most of the time but in this it could have been better either way.Still worth the buy being on blu ray it is visually stunning. 03/30/2008 23:32
Actually, Tamra, Will's character believes the zombie/vampire/mutants have no emotions but both endings prove him wrong. Both show the male making a butterfly(in broken window in theater version)(alt.version-making butterfly with his blood against the window0. Plus Will figures at some point they attacked him by setting him up with the dummy and catching him. The theater version he pretty much leaves it up to chance that the woman and child will make it to safety with his blood. 03/25/2008 01:10
The theatrical ending is more similar to the first remake of the movie. To me, the alternate ending, although happier, is corny. It turns sappy real quick and I was surprised that thats the way they chose to do it. 03/24/2008 19:01
I agree with metromom20743. He keeps saying that the zombies are unemotional. Why would they care about just one of them? Also, the purpose of the movie was that they hunted his blood, which is why he's spraying that stuff to destroy his smell. And how would they know that the girl had the alpha male's mate? If they were just looking for the alpha male's mate, than they wouldn't have known the girl had it. I might have liked the alternate ending if the rest of the movie was different, but it wasn't.

I think that the theatrical ending was better. In the movie Will says that they are pretty much unemotional Zombies. So why would they care if one Zombie is taken??? I think the ending said to me that Will is pretty much the last noninfected person on earth, and they want his fresh blood by any means necessary. 03/24/2008 07:38
Truthfully, I would not have choosen any one of them. The endings of each made not too much sense. To choose either ending, the script would have had to be written to support it. Not a fan on the decision either way. 03/23/2008 11:49
for me i think the Theatrical ending is better because if it's the Alternate ending he'll be just a person but the theatrical tells that he dead and the makes him the legend for this flim..... 03/20/2008 10:58
my vote is alternate ending.it is really amazing when he has a guts to kill those bad people living in new york...actually he is very brave and he fights all those creepy human being.the alternate ending was the best. 03/19/2008 16:16
i dont get how come that will did not throw the gernad in the broken glass so that he could have lived and then the bastered who killed his dog would die and his bitchs ????????????????????????????????????????????????? 03/19/2008 14:45
WHy would you ask us to pick an ending and not show the freaking ending? Neither one is book version and they both suck. WIll should have died to the hands of the vamps, like in the book. Hollywood really knows how to Fuck up a good thing! 03/18/2008 21:26
This site doesn't even show the entire alternate ending - See http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/03/05/must-watch-i-am-legends-original-ending-this-is-amazing/
My vote is for the alternate ending = it connects the dots with the connection between the bad vamp and the vamp in the lab. The good guy gets to both "live happily ever after" & feel like he did something good. Who got to make this decision? What were they thinking? I gues any HoopLa works for the folks in Hollywood 03/18/2008 20:29
First of all - The ending PISSED ME OFF when I watched the movie. Both endings are bad(I think - I can't really tell since I can't see the whole 2nd ending!). What a horrible way to end a decent movie. The movie was really good I thought, it just felt like they cut out all of these pieces and all that was left was the "bare bones" of the movie. And they don't even show you the whole ending! Uhhh… if people came and clicked on the "Which Ending is Best" website, then they are already looking to be spoiled. Why not give them the whole ending?I kind of see what he is doing in the 2nd version of the ending, but I am not sure. 03/18/2008 19:01
The alternate ending is way better! Guys its easy just go and search for the alternate ending, if you wasted time posting here then you might as well right? Anyways this was a very good movie, the storyline was great while they could have done way more with it, it still was a great movie. I liked the movie until I saw the theatrical ending which really was stupid. This ending sums it up somewhat better, and has higher emotional effect and suspense. Anyways those of you who say the movie sucked really give little reasons, its way better than most junk coming out like stupid movies with Will Farell acting like a 6 yr old. 03/18/2008 18:02
i agree with devildude2913.i really don`t like the movie that much. @ the ending it`s not what it`s supposed to be.he`s been fighting outside,i mean,he has the guts to kill those creepy people.he should have leave the antidote @ then be with the woman @ the boy.that`s should how the ending would end.the title itself,i am legend,he shouldn`t be dead.there`s no legend into it… 03/18/2008 16:30
I have to say that the alternate ending is better, but both still sucked. she said there is enough room in here. he could have grabbed the antidote, ran in the little door thing with the girl and boy, and threw the grenade out. THAT would have been the best because WILL LIVES! 03/18/2008 14:59
I love the theatrical ending - its great.I didn't even understand the alternate ending - it looked like it wasn't even done yet. Was that the whole thing with her opening the door and then nothing, the credits next? I don't get it.I'm happy with the 1st. 03/18/2008 14:37
To me this ending should have been how it ended, with him finding a cure. For those who did not catch on to the young female that was cought by (Smith) was related to the leader of the dark seekers and wanted her back. Yes, there would have been a better understanding of the title had this been the ending. 03/18/2008 14:15
This movie did NOT suck! Those of you who said this movie sucked were probably the punk-ass teenage bastards who talked during the movie when I took my family to see it.
The movie is simple and not overloaded with a bunch of useless sex scenes, drug use, and really bad rap songs. It allows you to focus on the character and actually feel what Robert is going through during each moment.
Rent the movie and see for yourself before listening to anyone in this comment board. 03/18/2008 13:45
movie sucked, will smith sucked, he's the same flat will smith in every movie he plays in.. waste of money, what sucks is I chose to go see this over no country for old men. 03/18/2008 12:44
Both options pale in comparison to the ending of the book. Given these two options, I prefer the theatrical ending, but only just barely. 03/18/2008 12:41
neither was very good. I would have enjoyed the movie allot better if it had been called 28 months later. Fine enough piece of film… if you just want to live in a world of illusion and ever educate yourself. "I am Legend" was a book long before it was a movie, it was dark but enlightening. the movie completely missed the point. It was painfully obvious that they were playing to an American audience (and yes I am American)by trying to give s happy ending. the point of the story was that the human race had changed, and Robert was now the monster. I did enjoy the acting and the portrayal, I even forgave that they set it in NY instead of LA, let go of the fact that Robert was white and blonde (that ultimately didn't matter) and even let go of the fact that, while he was in the military, he was no officer or scientist. He had to educate himself in his isolation, and the fact that he hadn't heard his own voice in 3 years added to the his darkness. The rest of you should pick up the book. it's only about 120 pages, and you are doing yourselves a disservice by just seeing this version. Like I said, go production, it just missed the point. if I had the money to higher Will Smith, the director, and the entire production crew, I would make a movie that was visually similar, just more true to the actual story 03/18/2008 12:35
I absolutely loved the movie was extremely disappointed with the ending - my ideal ending would be for Will Smith to survive along with the recovering girl....... 03/18/2008 11:51
both endinds are just as bad.....but regardless of what ending the movie had, the movie sucked overall, it was just a horrible movie and such a waste of money....so in my opinion, no ending would make up for the movie...actually, the only good scene was when shrek was on tv, yea, that was the ONLY good thing 03/18/2008 11:41
I hated both of these endings. I saw the movie in the theater and LOVED Will Smith, but was NOT happy about what they had happen to the dog. 03/18/2008 11:23
they start to show an Alternate ending, but they don't follow through with it, so how in the f*ck is someone supposed to really judge it when they can't see the whole thing. and still if they wanted to impress me they would have stuck to the book, the main woman would have at the last minute revealed she's an evolved vampire, one of many seeking to rebuild a new world order and that unfortunately their new laws mandate that old fashioned humans can not be a part of it but she wishes he could be with her, and thus the new world order kills him with the idea being presented that vampires were once legends to mankind, now mankind will be the legend to vampires, hence robert's final words before dying "I am Legend". now that's a great ending! 03/18/2008 10:20
I give Will Smith the highest cudos, one of the best films he has made. My whole family grew up watching Will and anything he does we will always be the greatest fans. Keep giving us the best of you Will Smith. 03/18/2008 09:05
Both endings were crap! Watch the Omega man as it keeps on going after this part! Actually forget Omega Man and watch The Quiet Earth its far better than this. 03/18/2008 08:48
The alternate ending cuts off on the alternate just before you see what happens. I went to see the movie in the theater so I know what happens in the theatrical ending. Both are nothing like the book (it's much better by the way) even if it's a short story. All in all i would say i'm gonna have to rent the special edition to see what it's all about in the alternate ending. 03/18/2008 08:18
I like this ending becuase he made the the choice that I dont know I myself could make -I would like to beleive that I could -I value courage right up there with loyalty-The ones who make this choice everyday should never be forgoten . 03/18/2008 07:15
I like the third ending where the police came and gased the mutants to sleep and later Will made a cure for all the mutants and got hitched by the girl. They gave birth to a baby mutant, Xavier. I can't wait to see I AM Legend to the Legend, where the mutant son, Professor Xavier, trys to find a cure for the human race, to turn all humans into mutants, and that's how the X-Men were created. Don't forget to check out the X-Men movies. 03/18/2008 06:00
I like the third ending where the police came and gased the mutants to sleep and later Will made a cure for all the mutants and got hitched by the girl and had a baby mutant for a sequel to I AM Legend. Can't wait to see I AM Legend to the Legend, where his son, Professor Xavier, trys to find a cure for the human race, so that the humans can become mutants, and that's how the X-Men were born. 03/18/2008 05:55
it is rational from events of the film that the hero had chance to survive batter than to scrufies himself for nothing. u find antidote which will help in saving the world & u got chance to life to proceed that antidote for others so if no body there can do that & if there is we have to save time which will spend to anylaise to get antidote. 03/17/2008 23:13
in the alt. does the kv let them live? do they kill them? or is it all a precursor to a part two. will there be a dvd with the alt. ending? if so will it answer these questions?? 03/15/2008 20:13
Well,i seem to have liked the alternate ending better but I'm just curious, what happens next?Does anyone die? Will the dreaded virus ever be cured? 03/12/2008 17:42
Hmm, I can see the pros and cons for each of the endings. In the theatrical ending our hero dies, some would argue meaninglessly, and that's always sad and all. In the alternate ending, it was very interesting to reveal the Infected being human and Neville being the real monster (just think about how many Infected he had to kill in order to find the cure, the object of his obsession). The problem I found with the alternate ending was that it seemed to leave more questions than answers: will there be no cure after all? how can anyone guarantee that the Infected won't still be a threat? and wouldn't the Infected want to kill Neville anyway to avenge the others that were killed by him? I'm sorry, but I personally don't find the whole "they'll leave us alone if we leave them alone" philosophy to be very believable in a movie like this, I mean after everything that's happened with NY being evacuated/quarantined and people trying so hard not to spread the disease and find a cure, the realization that the Infected simply want to be left alone seems rather anti-climatic. It's a tough choice, but I'm going to go for the original ending, to me it just makes more sense with the rest of the movie. 03/11/2008 22:48
The alternate ending is so much better. all the "beast" wanted waz iz gurl, he got her and ery body is happy, nobody dies.
After watchin the alternate ending u feel dat wil smith died 4 nothin 03/11/2008 15:19
I like the alternate ending better, I think it worked better in the context of this adaptation Neville Got to realise that the Death seekers were not the animals he made them out to be and on top of that they are also capable of Loving and Forgiving, Different from the book but it works better for this adaptation, I don't see how a sudden appearance of human like vampires at this point in the movie will make any sense, unless they had showed some scenes with him killing them all in their sleep. I think the suits needs to start giving audiences more credit, and quit coping out and feel they know what the audience can handle. 03/11/2008 12:27
I think that the theatrical version supports the original story line.
The second seems to offer hope, but how responsible was the action implied by his willingness to risk the lives of the only two survivors in spite of the hope that the KV infectees would allow him to treat them. 03/10/2008 20:26
